New Heights

Our History and Our Future I’m excited to announce through our new website that a project that I started three years ago is now going to a whole new level.  As a part of my work with Bootstrap Austin, I initiated a “Bootstrap Incubator” off of Spicewood Springs and Mesa, here in Austin in 2005.  Historically there have been limited opportunities for startups to get incubated in Central Texas.  UT's Austin Technology Incubator is a great facility, and a diamond in the UT System, yet it is limited in the sheer number of entrepreneurs that it can support directly… hence opening another incubator  made sense. Who are some of the companies that have been in the incubator?  Crimson Services, iBagIt, OneSpot, MomSquawk, AuctionHawk, Meritus Consulting, Enterprise Teaming, Wealth Warrior, to name a few. All in all, we have had 12 companies in our space, and is true with startups, some of these have hit the wall, and some have been acquired at a healthy profit. Given that this experiment has gone well, and that the need for Central Texas technology entrepreneurs is greater than ever, Jonas Lamis and I have joined forces to take this incubator to a whole new level- and we are branding this as Tech Ranch Austin.  Jonas’ serious commitment to emerging technologies, his experience with several technology startups, his complimentary skill set to my own, and his similar values and vision to integrating and strengthening the Austin technology startup community led me to this decision.  Its exciting to see the impact that our shared efforts will make together. As before, we will be targeting bootstrapped, pre-seed, and seed stage technology companies… technologies and companies that have the chance of changing the world.  Is this another co-working facility?  No- although some coworking type activities might happen at our facility at times, we have not been doing this over the history of the incubator… and moreover, we hope to work with Austin’s growing ecosystem of coworking facilities to add another part of the puzzle that has been missing in here in Austin.  We are looking forward to working together with other initiatives across Austin. Our greatest work will  be in expanding the opportunity for Austin’s technology entrepreneurs through integrating with Acton, UT and the ATI, coworking facilities,  Bootstrap Austin, and other entrepreneur support organizations.
